Sausage, Egg, and Cheese Biscuits

Now that we have the best flaky buttermilk biscuit recipe on the planet (thanks Frieda!!), we can have the best flaky buttermilk biscuit breakfast sandwiches on the planet. These are really a homemade version of McDonald’s biscuit sandwiches. It’s a whole lot easier to pay McDonald’s to hand you a piping hot, fresh biscuit sandwich, but I’ll be honest. I’m rarely ready for the day by the time they stop serving breakfast. I guess I could go through the drive-through in my PJs and slippers with bedhead, but I have a feeling that when “they” say that unkempt hair is in style, they weren’t referring to my hair in the morning.

These biscuits are a favorite breakfast recipe at our house. The nice thing? You can substitute bacon or ham for the sausage and use any kind of cheese you like. Here’s how I make them:

fresh flaky buttermilk biscuits

spreadable butter

ground sausage, formed into patties and browned

eggs, salted and peppered and fried

American or cheddar cheese

Slice each biscuit in half horizontally. Butter each biscuit half. Place sausage, egg, and cheese on bottom biscuit. Replace biscuit top.
