Sweet and Sour Meatballs

Foods that are “sweet and sour” always remind me of Donny and Marie and their “little bit country, little bit rock and roll” song. How many of you are thinking of Donny’s purple socks right now? And Marie’s perfect teeth? Or the ice skates. And of course, their so-long song . . . “good night everybody”. Ahh, the ‘70s. Yes, I remember. I was young but I remember. I loved that my bell bottoms actually covered my size 10 clogs. Completely. Although my clogs were so cool, I’m not sure why I was glad they were covered. Loved the Farrah Fawcett hair. And the wedge heels. I’m not sure why I embraced the knickers-with-argyle-socks look. I do regret that. Not everything goes together, but “opposites attract” is a real fine thing when it comes to these sweet and sour meatballs.
50 or so meatballs, cooked
Sauce:
2 c ketchup
2 t yellow mustard
1 c water
3 T Worcestershire sauce
¼ c finely chopped onion
1 clove garlic, minced
½ c brown sugar, packed
salt and pepper to taste
In slow cooker or saucepan, mix sauce ingredients. Add meatballs. Cover and cook on low for 1-2 hours (slow cooker) or 20-30 minutes (saucepan). Serve plain or over rice or noodles.
